DANCE

Recreation and Competition Dance classes are held weekly and are billed monthly. Our dance program season runs from September through our annual dance recital in mid-July. During the months of July and August, summer dance workshops and classes are available to our students.

Dance Program Season is September-July (Tuesday after Labor Day)
Students may enroll in recreational dance classes through February
– New dancers to TMR may enroll in any Level 1 class; if your dancer comes with experience, contact us at dance@themusicroomtmr.com to set up an evaluation to determine correct class placement
Enrollment for technique classes are on-going throughout the season
Our annual recital is in July, generally the 2nd weekend
Master Schedule for dance is released in August
Class enrollment opens in August
Class Divisions: Mini (ages 3-6), Child (ages 6-8)

Dance

Classes Offered

Ballet

Ages 3-18:
Offered at varying levels, these classes focus on the fundamental concepts, skills, movement vocabulary, and artistic expression specific to ballet.

  • Mini Ballet/Tap
  • Dress Code: Ballet shoes and tap shoes, leotard & pink tights (may wear ballet skirts if desired), hair pinned away from face
  • Child Ballet 1 & 2
  • Ballet 1-4
  • Dress Code: Please see the following guidelines. Individual instructors may offer additional guidelines.
    • Pink ballet shoes, black leotard, pink tights, hair in bun
      • *ballet skirt or black booty shorts are okay
    • Black leggings/shorts or capris, black tank top or shirt, black ballet shoes

Pointe

Ages 8+: All pointe classes are designed for students with previous ballet training. Students will utilize ballet technique while working in pointe shoes. Classes will focus on floor work and barre exercises, aiming to strengthen the feet and ankles.

  • Pointe & Strengthen (based on teacher placement)
  • Advanced Pointe & Strengthen (based on teacher placement)
  • Dress Code: Please see the following guidelines. Individual instructors may offer additional guidelines.
    • Pointe shoes, black leotard, pink tights, hair in bun
      • *ballet skirt or black booty shorts are okay
    • Pointe shoes, black leggings/shorts or capris, black tank top or shirt

Tap

Ages 3-18: Offered at varying levels, tap classes focus on the fundamental concepts, skills, movement vocabulary, rhythms and artistic expression specific to tap dance.

  • Child Tap 1 & 2
  • Tap 1-3
  • Competition Teams (Prep Tap, Tap Ensemble 1, Tap Ensemble 2)
  • Dress Code: Tap shoes and comfortable clothes, or as directed by instructor

Jazz

Ages 3-18: Offered at varying levels, these classes focus on the fundamental concepts, skills, movement vocabulary, and artistic expression specific to the jazz genre.

Hip Hop

Ages 3-18: Offered at varying levels, this class focuses on the fundamental concepts, skills, movement vocabulary, and artistic expression specific to hip-hop.

  • Mini Hip Hop
  • Child Hip Hop
  • Hip Hop 1-3
  • Hip Hop Teen
  • Competition Teams (Prep Hip Hop, Hip Hop Ensemble 1, Hip Hop Ensemble 2)
  • Dress Code: Clean sneakers and comfortable clothes

Technique

Classes

Leaps and Turns

Ages 8-18: Offered at varying levels, this class is designed to strengthen technique (leaps, center leaps, turns, fouetté, etc.) that dancers utilize in Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop and Dance Companies.

  • Leaps & Turns 1-4
  • Dress Code: Jazz shoes or half-soles and well-fitted dancewear

Pre-Pointe & Strengthen

Ages 8 and up: This class focuses on floor work and barre exercises, aiming to strengthen the feet and ankles, in preparation to go up on pointe.

Dress Code
  • Pink ballet shoes, black leotard, pink tights, hair in bun

  • Black leggings/shorts or capris, black tank top or shirt, black ballet shoes

Acro Dance

Ages 8 and up: Acro, also known as acrobatics, is a lower intensity take on gymnastics that focuses more on contortion, balance & stretching aspects. This class builds back, leg & hip flexibility, but equally focuses on strength and consistency.

Dress Code:
Comfortable and fitted clothing, no shoes required

Movement for Musical Theater

Ages 8 and up: This class teaches foundational movements specific to performing musical theater on stage.

Dress Code:
Jazz shoes and comfortable clothing. Instructors may offer additional guidelines.
